@kioko Yeah, they live under the sea and they create "houses" where they live. They put flowers in front of their houses. Check some documentaries, they are very intelligent creatures.

I love how these cultures also tend to have the believe that the more an animal suffers the better the meat will be.
Good thing we have things like biology and science to show that said belief is completely and utterly wrong.
The more an animal suffers the more endorphins are released into the muscles and flesh...which toughen and sour the taste of the meat.
This is another reason why a fast clean death is preferred by hunters and butchers.

@Enwon Geegeefor because you mentioned biology and science, i've found myself reading on invertebrates and pain vs. aversion to negative stimuli.
got any links to that "endorphins toughen meat" statement, because i don't feel like searching for that too.

You're right, but you are leaving out of the equation the intense pleasure Asians feel when inflicting suffering on other beings.

Pretty sure that octopus does close to the same thing to just about every animal it eats. Just saying.

@zAbArAkAtrAnEmIA_TheGreat Throw it on the floor with all your force. Once is normally enough, sometimes twice.

@manemebasat Yes, that's the way most in Greece do it (also makes the meat more tender), but (except of still being a cruel way)... once or twice!? i don't know where are you from, but either your country has very strong people, or those Greek octopus are very hard nuts!!!

@zAbArAkAtrAnEmIA_TheGreat and some they beat them with a wooden bat to soften the meat. I do immerse them for a minute in boiling water and that iced water. Repeat that 3 times and the meat is soft.

It's simply inhuman to be that indifferent to suffering.
Kill it first? Hell, at least use a knife instead of your fucking fingers?

@TheWustenfuchs
"who the hell invented "inhuman""
It's Latin, 15th century. "savage, cruel, rude, barbarous". The guy in the video purposely chose the most savage, cruel, rude, and barbarous method of stripping that animal, thus "inhuman" is the perfect word for it.

@dennix Sadly the brain of an octopus extends though all of its arms as well. There are but few painless ways to kill an octopus unless you gas it with chloroform or something similar.

@Herbwise
Someone suggested smacking it on a table a few times. That seems like a less painful way to go, what with all the disorientation and whatnot.
Not only that, but you get nice tender meat with your (somewhat) dead octopus.

As an Inuit hunter and whaler, I find it sad that they ripped it apart live. We are taught to give the animal a quick dispatch. I would have killed it quicker, perhaps with a large knife. Anything but rip its guts out live. Respect for life.

I was thinking the same thing. Like he has to spend 5 minutes ripping the stomach out of that octipus (torturing it), when he could've just sliced it off with a knife in like .2 seconds? Twisted folks. I love eating seafood as much as the next person, but do you have to abuse it?
