  • I live very near the grass strip at Geneseo N.Y where there is quite a nice airshow put on each July. At least one Spitfire attends each year. A particularly elegant aircraft the Spitfire is. It is difficult to gain a true perspective from seeing these planes on film but when standing right next to one in person it is almost shocking how small these Spitfires are. All that raw horsepower in the form of a Rolls Royce V-12 crammed into such a small airframe makes it a true thoroughbred. Beautiful More..

    • @ValleyBlacksmith It's a classic bird! You lucky bastard for living so close for the airshows! When I moved from Reno it was the one thing I missed most! We still go every now and then but it's different when you live right there!

The airshow is in a few weeks, usually second weekend of July each year. Arguably the best airshow in the U.S. IMHO. I've been to several other shows at modern airports with concrete as far as the eye can see and buildings everywhere. Not so at Geneseo, it is a photographer's dream. Nothing but grass and the trees in the distance so nothing cluttering up your photos. You can walk right up to all the planes here too. Quite a large turnout of classic warbirds that weekend each year for More..

    • @ValleyBlacksmith For the first time in my life I feel that i'm living on the wrong coast! That sounds like one hell of an airshow, Rides available in a P-51!Are you kidding me? I would give my left nut($1,500 actually sounded CHEAP to me) to be able to climb into a WII fighter for a 30 minute ride around the countryside! You are lucky to have such a great event so close. I wish I could be there, take some pictures and post them so I can drool all over my computer! Thanks VB for the link and you More..

  • "One of the ways to bring this war to a speedy end is to convince the enemy, not by words, but by deeds, that we have both the will and the means, not only to go on indefinitely but to strike heavy and unexpected blows". Winston Churchill, August 20, 1940.
