Israel Prepares For The Next Conflict As It Monitors Weapons Flow To Hizbullah.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday told IDF soldiers participating in a large scale exercise in the Golan Heights that Israel is closely monitoring the strengthening of Hizbullah and the inability of UN Security Resolution 1701 to prevent the flow of advanced weapons systems from Syria to the Shiite terror organization. The defense minister declared that it is no coincidence that Israel is using the time to train and prepare.Barak was accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, the commander of the army's ground forces, Gen. Avi Mizrahi, and other senior military brass.08/12/08

  • Its a very scary world now.

  • This is a good example that friends(allies) will only think of themselves when push comes to shove. The only thing Israel can really do is to hope for a cease fire between Russia and Georgia. They claim that Georgia is an Allie but the only thing they can do is "HOPE." Israel know it would suicide if they try to help the Georgians. Why? If Israel helps Georgia to fight against Russia, then they now for sure that Russia will help Iran against them. And they can't allow Russia to get in More..

    • Which do you prefer, blindly sending in troops to fight at all cost?? Or trying political diplomacy first??

    • I would prefer diplomacy first. However, since Israel would rather attack Iran now (preemptive strike) and diplomacy last. It's kind a surprising that they didn't just send in their troops first in order to help out the Georgians. But as what Barak said, "the Russians are big part of the equation."

    • "blindly" is such an understatement. Your good friend claim that they are under a full scale invasion. You shouldn't be thinking twice to help him. Georgia is a small country, and by the time you think they could be conquered. So what is their to think about? They (Israel) are only thinking about themselves.

    • I'm just guessing here, but escalating war in the region with a country like russia could lead to an irreversible domino effect. An effect that would have world wide consequences.

    • That's my point! The "domino effect" would go against Israel when (if) they attack Iran. So Israel is basically saying "although we are friends, we can't help (militarily) now cause i don't want Russia to help Iran. Apart from sending couple diplomats, you're on your own."

    • the question is what is his definition. Apparently giving haven to hamas leaders and providing weaponry, training to militias and non-governmental militaries to carry out attacks on civilians is not aiding terrorists. Let me guess, freedom fighters. hahahahah

Notice how Syria wants to go back to the 67 borders, why? Because they took Palestinian and lebanese territory in the 1948 war, but let's not go back that far because then Syria would have some serious questions to answer.

  • Look Hezbollah had a divine victory in the last war by having their country bombed back to the stone-age, having however many thousands of civilians die and inflicting minimal damage to Israel. Yes, it was truly a divine victory.

Barak is not wrong. The U.N resolution is ridiculous since it renders the UNIFIL troops powerless. Everyone knew a new conflict would arise in a short period of time and here we are.

As for these countries. Let's not forget how history has punished arab aggre More..

  • it must be nice for nasrallah having to spend his days in hiding, only appearing in public a handful of times out of fear of a targeted killing, while Israeli leaders head to the golan and watch a military drill, or shuttle to this country ,or that, but yes, it is Israel that is so fearful.

Can we really compare costs of these last lebanon war? one country destroyed, one country with minimal damage and minimal cost. Apparently the destroyed country thinks it was divine intervention.
