"Tiktaalik roseae is the most recent discovery in the study of early tetrapod evolution and arguably the most dramatic find in more than a decade. After several years of prospecting remote sections of Nunavut Territory in the Canadian Arctic, Ted Daeschler, Neil Shubin, and Farish Jenkins were able to report on three articulated and numerous isolated specimens of an elpistostegalian lobe-fin that exhibits a remarkable suite of characters transitional between the earliest tetrapods and their fishy precursors. Indeed, it has appropriately been dubbed a "fishapod"."

Tiktaalik (pronounced /tɪkˈtɑːlɪk/) is a genus of extinct sarcopterygian (lobe-finned) fish from the late Devonian period, with many features akin to those of tetrapods (four-legged animals).[1] It is an example from several lines of ancient sarcopterygian fish developing adaptations to the oxygen-poor shallow-water habitats of its time,[2] which led to the evolution of amphibians. Well-preserved fossils were found in 2004 on Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Canada.

Abstract

The relationship of limbed vertebrates (tetrapods) to lobe-finned fish (sarcopterygians) is well established, but the origin of major tetrapod features has remained obscure for lack of fossils that document the sequence of evolutionary changes. Here we report the discovery of a well-preserved species of fossil sarcopterygian fish from the Late Devonian of Arctic Canada that represents an intermediate between fish with fins and tetrapods with limbs, and provides unique insights into how and in what order important tetrapod characters arose. Although the body scales, fin rays, lower jaw and palate are comparable to those in more primitive sarcopterygians, the new species also has a shortened skull roof, a modified ear region, a mobile neck, a functional wrist joint, and other features that presage tetrapod conditions. The morphological features and geological setting of this new animal are suggestive of life in shallow-water, marginal and subaerial habitats. from A Devonian tetrapod-like fish and the evolution of the tetrapod body plan

  • I'm sure.

  • Lets get this straight: I am calling creationists who repeat the line "science admits there are no transitional fossils" liars.

You are guilty of the worst kind of fabrication because you are cowards and your ideology is bankrupt, baseless nonsense, and coming up with fiction like that is the best you can do. Well I can only feel pity for you - every time you do it, you're effectively putting a sign on your head saying

    "CREATIONIST CHARLATAN".

I have a list of transition More..

  • Agreed, they're gutless liars who have no shame.

They keep repeating the same lies despite clear evidence to the contrary.

  • gee ... an early version of today's "Walking Catfish" ?? there are still other "walking fish" species today around the world.

There have been many fossils of prehistoric fish with appendages that "walked" ... most for "walking" across the ocean floors, but some for occasional walks out of water .. just like they do today.

nothing new except to ignorant socialist progressive democrats.

  • Relax, atheists. Whenever your religion is the slightest bit challenged you run to your priests and implore them to defend your religion against the mean people who demonstrate your shallowness to you and cause you to get all worked up and angry. Stop running to your Magisterium, atheists. Start thinking for yourselves.

    • I agree.
They keep coming up with what they claim is irrefutable evidence for evolution only to have it falsified very shortly after.
With all the creatures that have died and are in the earth the best they can do is find a few broken bones and draw up an entire animal from it.
They can even tell you what the animal's favorite color was just from the few teeth they find.
And they call Creationism a fairytale.

    • Creationism is just a sleazy attempt to get religion back into schools, the use of morally bankrupt intellectuals and outright dishonest people aka "Kent Hovind" just highlights the kind of people you are: What sort of person follows a God that kills innocent little children, you're absolutely despicable?
