    • No kiddin! Fantastic photographer hands down. Anyone that thinks they know a little about Veitnam generally only see's the worst of the worst pics/videos. Clearly you have unliminated those, and its good to see smiling faces and high moral. Im sure you have great bonds with great buddies. Thanks for sharing such an amazing part of American history with us. Voted!

  • Remember Veterans day is just around the corner. So what does it mean to be a veteran Father Denis Edward O'Brien/USMC said it best:

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a jagged scar, a certain look in the eye.

Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, a piece of shrapnel in the leg - or perhaps another sort of inner steel: the soul's ally forged in the refinery of adversity.

Except in parades, however, the men and women More..

  • I saw a Cav patch in one picture. I've just been reading through about five books on Vietnam- mostly Cav. The Blues, Pink teams, Scouts, lift ships, gunships etc. Then your photos come along. Very topical. Thanks a lot, they put things in perspective.
Also, I think it's disgraceful how your own country treated you soldiers when you came home. Glad you're getting respect at last.

  • Sloop, I have to say man, your pics are simply amazing. Theyre not what you ever see in books, giving it an authenticity which is so rare in history. Its like being in a time machine almost man. Very cool stuff, thank you so much.

  • Sloop, you got the m-16's when they were new...were they as bad as everybody says?

    Posted Oct-30-2008 By

    (3) | Report

    • Yes and no. They had many problems. In 66 I used an USAF AR15 with full auto capability. It had no bolt assist to chamber a dirty round. If you loaded more the 16 Rds in a 20 round magazine it would jam. Any sand in bolt or receiver it jammed. Some had bad disconnects so they wore and would fire 2 round sometimes on single fire semi auto No chrome plated chambers. Rust was problem! The fore arm pieces cracked and broke frequently. The accuracy, while better than any AK, was poorer than an M-14. Th More..

    • These were the new style. They didn't jam as much as the old ones. That was in Jan of 68 as I recall.

  • I'm wondering what the image is at 4:01 - it's a bundle of sharp objects, but I really am not quite sure what those were used for, or what that's about. Thanks for sharing these pictures, and if anyone knows just please let me know.

    • I think it's a bundle of punji stakes, which the VC used to create booby traps. I found this definition: "A very sharp stake that is concealed at an angle in high grass, in a hole, or in deep mud, often coated with excrement, and planted to wound and infect enemy soldiers."

Someone who knows for sure will correct me if I am mistaken.
