Congressman Blames Shootings On Attack on Religious Beliefs
Part of channel(s): Denver cinema shooting (current event)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter.

  • Both Sweden and Denmark show that you can have a civilised society with few guns and even less religion - both countries are mostly atheist and have strict gun laws.

  • That congressman is an idiot. It's like falwell blaming voodoo for the earthquake in Haiti.

  • I think the scariest thing is that American's have elected this guy to make laws and the like despite the fact that he believes in a make believe guy in the sky that judges everything you do. Fair enough if he could keep his religious problems separate from his political views but apparently he can't.

It's funny, if you said that anything other then 'god' was in the sky watching you 24/7 you'd be committed to an Asylum but apparently its fine for religion.

    lol...

    • @Globalgenocide Tragically we are a nation of idiots. The longer I live here, the longer I realize I'm in the wrong country.

  • Gohmert wouldn't know Christian beliefs if they were fucking him up the ass.

  • America is way more Christian today than it ever has been and yet violence is at an all time high. seems like there is a link between how religious people are and how violent society becomes.

  • Yeah, why didn't god magically put a couple of shotguns into the hands of the people who were getting shot at??

  • Yes. A dark smoke filled theater full of terrified people with guns, all at the same time correctly identifying and shooting the guy who was the real threat. No chance anyone would make a mistake and anyone would end up shooting eachother. You have a weapons permit dammit. That makes you a seasoned pro. Some people just dont think things through at all.

    • @stevecore In an interview with one of the people who was there. He saw the gunman shooting people. He even shot the guy beside him. If he had a gun he could have ended it right then.

  • I agree with what you said about the God issue stated. It's absolutely ridiculous to say God let these people be killed out of some form of hatred for our society. However, I will never agree that people should not be armed. People should have guns or the only ones with them will be the criminals. I would much rather take my chances with a armed Samaritan than the only person being armed is the maniac killer. Not interested in your anti gun stance at all. Before anyone says I cling to the bible More..

  • if there were a few people in that theater watching the movie that were armed then alot more people would have died i know its in your constitution the right to own and use a gun but im sure the guys that wrote it didnt have assult rifles in mind there is no need for the general public to own and use assult rifles there just isnt and i have owned and used guns all my life for hunting and target sport

    • @dr tipple The people who constructed our Constitution made the 2nd Ammendment so we could protect ourselves from our own Government and Military if they went corrupt. That is why we can own Assault Rifles. So we can fight soldiers with their M16's, body armor, grenades, and rockets.

    • @Anonyville yeah not to sure about that mate no one should be able to own an assult rifle you just dont need it it has no practicle use apart for the one that happend the other night

    • @dr tipple Really, ask a Syrian that right now or a Lybian, Egyptian, Bahrainian, Tunisian, or any of the countries that had to fight their dictators with no weapons or simply try to defend themselves from radicals. They are prime example why a society needs guns just as powerful as the militarized police, Military, and radical factions.

    • @Anonyville i notice that the usa is not on that list of countrys and you have no dictator to fight in australia we handed in all our auto and semi auto guns in 96 after port author and guess what society did not crumble there was no sudden millitary takeover and radical factions did not roam the streets in blood thisty packs and to top it all off we havent had a mass shooting since but hey we do live in a civilized western country

    • @dr tipple I was being kind not to point out that there is a dictatorship in America now. When they Passed Homeland Security, Patriot Act, Indefinite Detention without a Trial. Then there very much is a Government push for a control over the American people that has never been tried before. Likely, I would believe that we are going to see an Civil War because of it.

Oh and if China ever decides to come after Australia. Your country is done. Your to close to them and we can't get there to help More..

New Jersey, USA. He would probably qualify as 'independent' or 'progressive' on the political spectrum.
