Sikhs has been striving for a separate homeland since 1984 Sikh's massacre by Hindu extremists. Their sacred Golden Temple was attacked and religious leaders were gunned down terming them terrorists by Indian government which resulted in assassination of Indira Ghandi by her own Sikh bodyguards. Their movement was suppressed brutally by Indian government in the past. In the wake of recent events in Punjab(East Punjab), Sikhs are again waking up to the fact that they are a separate nation in all aspects.

Its a shame that extremist want to break up hindu sikh relations. I am a hindu punjabi and consider sikhs my brothers. People who want Khalistan really don't understand the relationship sikhs and hindus have. Sikhs are the protectors of the hindu religion, simply an army that was created to defeat the invading mogul empire, the first born hindu son was sent off and turned to a sikh or "LION" to train and defeat the moguls.
