Safe Mode: On
The world is NOT overpopulated. Everyone can fit in Texas.

Wolfgang Riggins, on July 21st, 2012
The green, liberal, and socialist agenda has many bogus issues which it promotes to further its agenda of anti-freedom goals, but their assertion that the world is over populated is one that particularly annoys me. It is simply not true.

They promote “Family Planning” i.e. killing babies in the name of controlling the population, because they claim that mans “over” reproduction has a detrimental effect on the environment and that it we don’t’ control our population we will run out of resources. These Malthusian predictions have been made over and over again and never come true.. But without getting into the weeds debunking their claims, I thought I would just take a straight forward look at the population and living space on the planet.

Currently there are 7 billion people on the planet and there is approximately 57.5 million square miles of land, which is 29.2 percent of the earths surface. Spread evenly across the earth, the population density would only be 122 people per square mile. Now I realize that not all of this is “livable” space but considering we are trying to figure out how we can colonize the moon and Mars, it is more livable than we realize.

The most densely populated city in world is Mumbai india. It has an area of 300 miles and contains 47,833 people per square mile. If your not a people person, this is not a place you want to be.

At 305 square miles and a population of 8,244,910 New York City has a concentration of 27,032 people per square mile. Now thats pretty tight, but not nearly as close quarters as Mumbai.

Did you know…everyone on the planet (7 billion) could fit in the state of Texas (area of 268,820 square miles) at a density 26,040 people per sq. mile. Thats a 1000 less people per square mile than in New York City!

If you put all 7 billion people in Alaska (663,268 square miles) there would only be 10554 people per square mile. Rather roomy. And if all of the planets people were put in the united states (3.79 million miles) there would only be 1846 people per square mile.

Bottom line…there is plenty of room on this planet and there are plenty of resources, and when resources become constrained man will use his creativity and resourcefulness to solve any problems that may arise

Just saying

  • nobody is saying that there is physically no room for more people. So all your points about space seem silly.

You can go on believing there are unlimited resources for 20+billion humans to live like Americans do but belief doesn't dictate reality. Fresh water is becoming more scarce and expensive, especially in the developing world. Oil supplies, more than anything, dictate First World foreign policy. But yeah, have ten kids and buy them all hummers and big macs because there's plenty of room More..

  • What does it prove to stack all the people in the world in Texas if it takes the rest of the planet's surface to feed, clothe, and provide them with living resources? That's just an exercise in redistributing people.

No one's complaining that the planet is physically crowded. They're saying we are getting close to the limit of the planet's capacity to adequately support that many people, REGARDLESS of where you put them.

  • Really? This pile of regurgitated fucking bullshit? We're fine just because the entire population of the planet can "fit" in Texas?
Forget about sanitation, forget about providing food and water, as long as we can all stand shoulder to shoulder in Texas the world is not overpopulated. You go hang out butts to nuts in texas, I'll keep believing the "lie" that overpopulation is a problem and stay here in my Liberal city in Colorado where I have a house, a yard, a toilet, c More..

This isn't a liberal or "green" thing as Cajunmojo seems to think, it's common fucking sense. The fact he posted it says a lot about the complete and utter lack of intelligence or critical thinking that drives his opinions on all issues.

Holy shit! Are you fucking serious?
It's not about "what we have run out of," it's about what you and Cajunmojo will run out of after about 3 days-- CLEAN WATER. BLEACH AND PAPER TOWELS. FOOD. 1 SQ. FOOT OF DISEASE FREE SPACE.
      Then you die.

  • The world wouldn't be overpopulated if it weren't for all the morons. I read the above post and had an eery feeling I was in the movie Idiocracy.

  • liberals can't do math.

    Why even bother with 'em?

  • Not very sure about this...its not "space" that is an issue but resources.
And no, we don't come up with anything creative when they begin to run out, we simply end up bombing one another.

Just think how many items and food are consumed by ONE individual on the 1st and 2nd World countries in a year...then multiply...

  • "Did you know…everyone on the planet (7 billion) could fit in the state of Texas". Not till I run out of ammunition. We've got too damn many people here already, in some places.
