  • i watched it live

then after thought of the columbia and well i read the crew survial report

    and its shocking

    left wing was lost
the RTC * nose thrusters compensated for lack of wing
then it lost its battle ( last transmission) yes the crew were flying with out wing and did no know it for 7 seconds...then the shuttle banked a complete 90 and faced "belly to the wind" was in a flat spin and then broke flat spin and rolled onto side exposing side to thermal, at that moment the crew compartment sepperated from the mid section and the shuttle broke into 3 parts... the cabin tumbelled backward at this time the comander switched off and on apu because electricity was lost and he wanted to restart unknowing the shuttle was already broken apart
4 seconds later the cabin explodes and they die from that and thermal.

after reading the report you can watch any of the shuttle reentry columbia vids and clearly see the crew compartment tumbeling and then explode then at that time its no longer visable because its completely fragmented and no longer the same friction to create the glow

the report even goes into detail about each person and thier actions.

theres more but they didnt release it to public cos it gets grewsome

    RIP
    God speed crew

  • Amazing job, I wonder what the margin for error is on this landing procedure? They don't lower the landing gear until 300 feet from the ground, what do they do if it doesn't deploy properly?

  • Welcome home! I was worried about them after hearing about the foam hitting the shuttle during the launch.

Pretty good for a flying brick. Bet it makes some wicked sonic booms as it slows down.

There are explosives that force the gear down if they don't respond within 1 second.

"a pyrotechnic initiator at each landing gear uplock hook automatically releases the uplock hook on each gear one second after the flight crew has commanded gear down."

They have several redundant systems to get that gear down.
