This horrific act happened recently in my home town (Amanzimtoti, South Africa)Location: Amanzimtoti, South Africa 20/08/2011 - A group of five men attempted to herd the cow onto the back of a bakkie (Pickup/Truck), but when the cow wouldn't co-operate they tied a rope around its neck and strangled to death using a pole. One witness said the poor animal bellowed in pain while it died. When witnesses confronted the men, they were arrogant and started swearing at witnesses. When the South African Police Services and a local community security company (C.C.P.O) were called to the scene they did not respond. Police did however arrive 2 hours later but by this time the 5 men had already loaded the dead cow onto their bakkie and had left the scene. This was also brought to the local SPCA's attention but they said their hands are tied and that they could do nothing about this. Don’t be too shocked at this, as this sort of thing happens all the time here in RSA. Animals are slaughtered in residential area, in the streets and with Zero regard for the animal. The methods used to kill the animal are anything but legal. Animals are tortured and taunted for hours until they are either stabbed in the neck or as you can see, just strangled. The South African government seems to do nothing about these cruel acts and defend these acts in saying that it is "their culture"!!! Culture? This sounds like the same excuse we have all been hearing from South Korean Government about the beating and torturing to death of dogs. I think it about time this lot start evolving!!!
