Yeesh, that was terrible. I always say I would love to see a tornadoe, but if I lived in tornado alley I bet it'd be the other way around. I feel so badly for the people who's homes get torn to bits...lucky guy.

Lol trust me, you do NOT want to get close to one. I've come across SuperCell F5's out in Nebraska, outran an F3 in NY , and had numerous close calls in VA.
I watched the Tornado out in Nebraska as it actually descended and touched down. It picked back up, went over our location, and then dropped back down. The funnel cloud formed all the way out in Laramie, WY, where they witnessed it as well.

I loved to watch them but after I took a direct hit from one two years ago I have seen all I need to see. It blew out every window in my car and threw my car around as I was inside it. I had car glass inside my ears and up my nose.

They are not as common in Virginia as they are in the central US, but they do occur. Here's a link showing 45 years worth tornadoes in Virginia:

This is really rare here. I've lived in Virginia Beach all my life which is another city of the Hampton Roads area which Suffolk is part of and this never happens
