Too bad the US system doesn't actually want thinking, educated people. They're not really good for the consumerist herd.

I'm finnish, but I learned fluent english at a very young age only because of Cartoon Network. That's revolutionary right there, thank you America!

It's true our education systems are twisted places, where you regurgitate information- cram it into your head- get tested on it- get a factory stamp- and then forget it all.

Ooooo... he almost had it... then he remembered that in most so-called "homogeneous" (ie; ethnically white) countries, DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH!
The cruel irony is that as socially liberal and internally altrusitic as they are, Finland has no place for people like Cenk.
And furthermore that their system will not work here precisely because we go out of our way to make room for the Cenks of the world.

Probably less bullying and fewer suicides too.

From the evidence provided, I hypothesize that it only works on white kids.

Finland is a tiny, homogeneous country with a few million people.
If you want to change America back to a homogeneous culture, perhaps it would work in the U.S.
The man seems incapable of context.

Well if diversity is so damn good, how come Finland score so high on everything like education, income and living standard? It's the same thing year after year. Sweden was also on the very top of everything until they decided to go multicultural. Now they are going downhill fast.
Homogeneous countries are always better! It's stupid to deny it.

Let's put it in perspective, specifically demographic information that the Dumb Turd left out;
He can't disregard the issue of minorities or immigrants, because Norway has a far greater rate of immigration in comparison to Finland...and Finland let's practically no-one in.
He can't ignore that the comparatively fewer number of children is not a factor, and then selectively compare it to "Kentucky." Why not compare it to Massachusetts, which has only a slightly higher population? Of c More..

@Momus
The teachers are unionized and their union is very respected, because everyone knows how important their work is. Why should it have been mentioned?
Or the money spent per pupil? We live in the same global market, so there is no extra money (like from oil) to be spent. Whatever amount is spent in education, it`s worth it.

@Tuuri56
Because in America, the system that the Dumb Turd was criticizing, the role of unions and the amount spent per child is frequently championed by the more socialistic among us as a reason to extort more money from us.
Your last sentence is incorrect. It ignores the concept of diminishing returns. Apparently economics is not taught in Finland.
