$79,197:average compensation of Federal civilian employees

Here’s one data point that will be fuel for revolution when taxpayers discover it:

It is the average compensation of Federal civilian employees vs. average compensation in the private sector.

Used to be, government jobs paid LESS than comparable civilian ones, balanced by lavish benefits. But now, it seems, gubment workers make A LOT MORE than comparable civilian workers, and STILL get the lavish benefits (including lush health care plans).

Is the average Federal employee worth $30,000 a year more than the typical worker in the real world?

  • Term limits. Salary cuts. Ron Paul.

They take care of their own, even though they work for us. The federal government is in collusion with big bussiness. The federal government just acts as a spearhead to insure the agenda of big bussiness.

Michigan is in terrible shape yet it has made its governor the third highest paid governor in the U.S. We have to wake up people and start making noise. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

  • This is because government workers are more important than private sector workers...in spite of the fact that it's the private sector that produces the wealth that the government wants to consume.

    • Actually, the extra money is so they can buy their souls back. How else can they get into Heaven after screwing so many people?

    • Please. Government workers get paid significantly less then comparable private industry workers.

Having worked for the NPS, USGS, and a State government, I've met very few people who were making $70,000....if any.

To make that kinf of money, you have to be running a department.

    • Working for the government is very, very different than working in the private sector...and the data indicates that (surprise surprise) the government just might have too many people in management...

    • Yes, it is a lot different.

You have a bot more security, but you have to deal the kind of shit private sector employees would find comical.

    • Ummm, from the look of things, this was not a liberals fault. The years shown were republican rule. Sure blame it on Liberals. Nn a true note, don't forget to mention, they do get much better health insurance and pay less for it. Uncle Sam, I want to work for you!!

    • George Bush sucked because he grew a bigger government. Obama sucks worse because he wants to grow it even faster.

Big government sucks. Federal employee unions suck. Together they are sucking the life out of the private sector on which everything depends.

    • Liberticide = similar to homicide, e.g. end of liberties. Now as to the role libtards are playing in it, nobama's radical agenda is right there on top. Bush Jr. was an amateur compared to the grab nobama's making.

    • Since when have I ever stated that this is something I'm advocating?

But then again I shouldn't wonder, since those invoking the memory of that Austrian corporal are usually incapable of reading what others write, and only see what they want to see.

  • I work for the gubment and I sure don't have this kind of income or lavish insurance package! I had better insurance and salary when I worked in the private sector. These are probably elected officials or GS-12 folks that have been there for a period of time and have worked their way to the top.

  • Those are harsh numbers. Usually private is the most paying with most risk, while goverment / federal is meant to be safe jobs.

  • it USED to be exactly OPPOSITE!

You accepted the lower goverment salary in exchange for the "safer" job.

My job in the USMC as a SSGT was the same as a GS18 at FtMeade! the GS18 was making about 5 times my salary.

  • If you are envious and dont like it, instead of grumbling, go and get yourself one of those government jobs for yourself, that's what i did. Federal, state, city, a lot of the jobs are pretty good and better to working for some soul-less corporation that could care less about you.

  • Here's another tip if you want to make some money:

Get a degree. Learn a trade.

If you're well into your career and making only $30,000/year, it's either because you've chosen a low paying job that you really love.....or because you don't know how to do jack shit.

....with respect to the people who've been knocked down by the currebt economy, of course.
