  • as a country, a central government is needed.
i agree that we currently have WAY too much federal involvement in our lives now.
however, you cannot have a COUNTRY, which even the founding father's could see would be a bastion of freedom, and a land that would explode with new citizens, and be a large voice in world events, with out having a federal government to deal with WORLD events, and to oversee the rights and responcibilities of its citizenry.
besides a history lesson, what are you trying to say here?
also, EVERY country has, at one time or another, fought their neighbors.
    countries fight..
    they want more land...resources etc.
THAT is the politics OF countries.

  • You were looking for 'pursuit of happiness' in the opening.
I agree in substance with a lot of what you say.
The founding fathers were landed gentry that didn't want to kick up to King George. They weren't afraid to tax without representation evidenced by the Whiskey Rebellion. All men weren't created equal if you consider that most of the founding fathers and framers of The Constitution held slaves. I wonder what the George W. of 1776 would think of the U.S. today. For all his platitudes about freedom it took us almost 200 years to say it without being embarrassed.

  • missed or ignored a few important elements, but overall, a fairly good synopsis of the early history.

  • 24 days to cross the atlantic at that time, only with exceptionally good weather! Ususally took 2 months, sometimes it took 6 months!

  • Quoted comment by lure4wisdom: Tax was created by the Bank of England and Smith families!

Taxes have been around for a very long long time, and used by many nations and empires.

  • All I know is they told the Brits to hit the pavement and that's a good thing. Thank god we don't have to eat boiled meat and dive on the wrong side of the road.

  • Nice video but I think the message at the end wasn't quite right. The best constitution is the simplest one. Restoring it means getting rid of all the bollux that was added to it thru bullshit laws.

  • 1) Taxation "WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" was the key to the war... not Taxation itself. Representation meaning a voice in government. As for being rich colonies... the certainly had a voice.

    2) Invasion of Canada as another British stronghold was a strategic tactic to get rid of the british on the continent so they wouldnt have a stronghold to reinvade (see war of 1812)

    3) Barbary Wars were because without British sea support (who happened to be the strongest in the world) the Barbary PIRATES loot and kill those who dont pay enormous tribures... not taxes or subsidies... but ruthless pirate taxes and slavery. America needed to end this threat to NORMAL COMMERCE; not to end taxes with sovereign states. North Africa had no states or nations but raides coasts for tribute and slaves. The British and French are well documented in paying these tributes in reason... the US without the presence needed to end the threat and did to the benefit of all in the Mediterranean. These were not "tolls".

    4) The war of 1812 was King George IIIs attempt to regain the loss he had of his most prized colony which he knew would look bad on his reight. Parliament was torn. Communication in those days took over 2 months not 38 days (it wasnt just the sea voyage, not everyone lived on the coast). The battle of New Orleans was fought over a month after the end of the war because of bad comms which we take for granted today. Both sides would not have fought it.

Before you act as if Mexico was a victim... look things up on how Mexicans wanted the US to defeat Santa Ana as well... the self proclaimed Napolean of the Americas.

You tie bullshit facts together with bad hypotheses. You must be Canadian.

    **** you.
