Footage of SA-8 Gecko SAM vehicles, & other AFV's destroyed by the Armée de l’Air
BBC footage of the wreckage left after a French air strike on regime vehicles on the Adjabiya to Benghazi road.
Amphibious SA-8 Gecko SAM systems were destroyed together with MBT's, and 152mm self propelled guns.
Quite why the tyrant needs amphibious SAM vehicles in a desert is anyone's guess.
The SA-8 can guide two missiles on different frequencies to complicate ECM. There is also a tubular device fitted to and above the tracking radar, this is thought to be an EO/LLLTV optical tracker. This would be used to track the target when the main tracking radar is jammed by ECM.

On the modern battlefield tanks are little more than iron coffins.

If they don't have Anti-Air support or if they can't use it then your correct. On the other hand Serbs survived very well despite the hype.

I don't know what kind of an idiot sent this unit on an open road (advance or withdrawal, regardless). This Gadaffi's fighters should have known they are dead meat in the open against modern air power.
Or this was some kind of a bait, but I sincerely doubt that...

They wont get caught in the open again this has played in to gadaffies hands as his men know there dead outside of any town ,they will fight even harder not to be dislodged from any built up area ,lets see how the rebels fight in built up areas.

Another question is if they need to fight there? They might just as well go directly to Tripoli and leave military behind.

Eh ... I kinda agree with that, i.e. makes much sense.

People around those wrecks will get cancer and kidney damage from depleted uranium. Radioactivity is not your friend.
