Helmet Cam Vid Shows Heroic U.S. Soldier Drawing Taliban Gunfire Away From ‘Pinned Down’ Squad
Part of channel(s): Afghanistan (current event)

A wild video reportedly shows an unnamed U.S.
soldier and his squad engaging in a machine gun fight with Taliban
insurgents in Afghanistan — all captured by the soldiers helmet cam. The
video also shows that same soldier risking his life and heroically
drawing fire away from his fellow soldiers so they could get to safety.
According to the description of the video, the soldier and his squad
were doing “recon” and intelligence gathering outside a village in the
hyper-violent Kunar Province of Afghanistan when they were pelted with
heavy machine gun fire from Taliban insurgents.
After seeing that his entire squad was “pinned down,” the soldier
exposed himself “to draw fire so my squad could get to safety.” He was
reportedly shot four times.“I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and i made it
down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and
my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the
village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of
the hill with the LT. when we got hit. the rest of the squad was pinned
down by machine gun fire. I didn’t start the video until a few mins into
the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw
fire so my squad could get to safety.”
He goes on: “A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade
launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back
up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice
sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless. ”
The video description also says no bullets “penetrated his body armor, and he made it home with no permanent injuries.”

  • I'd think getting yourself shot and expecting them to come get you kinda defeats the purpose and only places your squad in more danger. I'll give him points for bravery for stepping out to draw fire, but heroism would have been hauling his own wounded ass out of there.

    • @Kingfisher

If you'd seen the original video with interview as posted by Funker530, or if you'd just read the goddamned description instead of just commenting, you'd have known that after being hit 4 times and his helmet cam died, he walked down the mountain on his own. He DID haul his own ass out of there.

For those of you saying he's dumb for leaving cover, you can see THERE IS NO COVER ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN YOU MORONS. Its an almost sheer face and they were observing and doing recon More..

    • @drowrogue yeah but i think hes commenting on how he says he did that to draw fire away from his platoon but then scream for them to come help him once he got shot which would defeat the whole purpose of the whole thing in the first place

    • @lordpure

Yeah, I gave him credit for his initial courage but he kinda pussed out there for while. Not exactly my definition of heroic. Not too bright either. When I see bullets smacking the dirt at my feet I don't go diddy-bopping along an exposed hillside, and I sure as hell don't stop and turn my back to the enemy. I fucking MOVE. Now stop screaming and pick up your fucking weapon, troop.

    • @drowrogue HEY MORON do you know the difference between MACRO TERRAIN and MICRO TERRAIN? I doubt it so go look it up and come back at me with your new found knowledge. Well there was plenty of micro terrain and he seems he was exposing himself way too much. I wasn't there so that is MHO.

  • I say He's a Hero! But Now it's time to bring them home and turn this shit hole into a parking-lot!

  • Sorry, All I see is a guy needlessly exposing himself to fire. We were trained to avoid exposure lasting more than 3 1/2 seconds back in the day. Once he's hit he acts like any soldier who's been hit. No heroics here other than he's over there.

  • Drawing fire so that some of your guys can make their move is commendable, but running so far from any cover is quite stupid.

My guess is it was a bad rambo move. If your squad is pinned down under machine gun fire you dont run out into the open.

    • @Foster777 You hide with them, pinned means hiding behind cover... "im goin down!" why didnt someone say sit the fuck down dude! What the fuck you goin down there for?! Someone said must be 3rd or 4th tour? Id say 1st week in and alot of meat in his head. Heroic is when theres no other option and someone has to do it... didnt seem like anyone had to do anything. Glad he made it though, got very very lucky.

  • the one thing this site has changed in me is a like the american people and not the gov......i respect this dude, the bullet inpacts are so fucking close its insane.

although if you were hit badly you would die and nobody even yelled back when you said you were hit, they had you ranged and if it wasnt for the pkm spread you would have been dead, the person shooting knew what he was doing, a svd would have killed him for sure.

  • Did anyone see in back of him? Probably not so how can you say he was in worse cover than before. I also would like to add being deployed in AFG is different than fighting in AFG. Plenty of POGs in the Stan. None of yall saying anything about this guy have the balls that this guy does. He has more fortitude in his morning shit than yall haters will ever have in your overweight basement dwelling bodies. Bunch of COD know nothings. Don't talk about it, be about it.

  • Throwing down your rifle and yelling "I'm hit!" will not kill the bad guys....or make them stop shooting at you.
