  • our science teacher in grade four told us that a guy had been snowmobiling with friends and they were all drinking wine that they kept in their snowsuits to keep from freezing. this guy ran out tho, so he grabbed his vodka from the back of the sled, drank a pretty hefty amount, then died because it was cold enough to freeze part of his heart.
i imagine you wouldn't wanna drink too much vodka slushy like this here.

(why our gr. 4 teacher told us that i have no idea, he also told us we were likel More..

  • I cannot imagine how cold that environment is. How can anything even work? I could have my diesel with it's block heater plugged in at all times when not running and I guarantee it still wouldn't start. I could waste an entire battery on getting the glowplugs even half-way to cause a good start. I guess you just never turn anything off that has to start running again.

    • @ramonday I remember it is important in winter to switch on the engine and let it work for few minutes before starting driving.

The gas pedal is pressed very gently (and only halfway).

Car is better to be started when the gear is in "Parking".

all our vehicles (rig, pump truck and crew truck) started even at -45, some of it needed help and the tires were frozen flat at the bottoms, but it all started.

Problem is when such temperature is holding for a 3+ days, or you have it during a daylight (so its probably even more colder at night). Its very rare situation thank god.

  • I've Drilled wells in -6 Fahrenheit before wind chill, but this is nuts! If you didn't run 24/7 The equipment would freeze up. One day we had to heat up water in 5 gallon buckets over sage brush fires to thaw the controls, and chop holes in the Truckee River to get water!
