All right, you two, there was no meteor. The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a meteor. it was swamp gas from a weather balloon that was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

@nillhouse meteors can be going any speed relative to the earth, there isn't necessarily some rule that says they always go fast. It just depends on what the objects are from (eg asteroid, comet) and the velocity the objects took when they broke off of whatever..
