Couple on New Jersey train manhandled and thrown off by police

A Plainfield man and woman were accused of attacking a New Jersey Transit police officer after being told they couldn't bring bicycles on a rush-hour train Thursday, authorities said.

Chris Sanchez, 27, and Antonella Urtecho, 20, were charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and interfering with transportation, NJ Transit spokesman William Smith said.

The two boarded a westbound Raritan Valley line train at Newark Penn Station and allegedly began acting belligerently when the train crew told them they would have to exit at the next stop, Smith said.

Both Sanchez and Urtecho attacked the officer when he boarded the train upon its arrival in Union. When the NJ Transit officer tried to handcuff Sanchez, Urtecho jumped on the cop and bit him, the spokesman said.

Other passengers then intervened to assist the officer until backup arrived, according to Smith.
