Syria - Aleppo's Shifa Hospital
It had been a calm day so far in embattled Aleppo's Shifa Hospital, said
a relieved doctor. His face etched with exhaustion from just three
hours of sleep a night. Then a man burst into the cramped hospital
bearing the shrieking bundle of a 6-old-year-old girl who'd had a
machine gun bullet rip through her knees.
Months into the battle for Syria's largest city, civilians are still
bearing the brunt of the fighting under a daily assault of helicopter
gunships, roaring jets and gunmen and troops battling it out in the
streets.

@567thadm The current fighters were just children 20 years ago when Assads old man applied scorched earth to them. Trust me in 20 years time this madness will repeat.

They're fighting for islamism, a basic threat to all liberties and freedoms and certainly so to whatever limited freedoms they once had under Assad.

@MAKMAK
the FSA is overwhelmingly Syrian...which means they are educated and have been secular most of their whole lives...that will not change when they have power

@Nudepulltoy It is wise to remember that Aleppo didn't want nothing with this "uprising". FSA invaded the city, when inhabitants didn't revolt against government. So, be sure to give thanks for Aleppo situation to right adress: The good ol' FSA islamists.

dont forget that aleppo has the headquarters of the regimes equivalent of the CIA/FBI...if anyone in alleppo demonstrated, their whole family would disappear...from the interviews iv watched from residents....they were scared shitless then and are still scared shitless, hard to ever break the feeling that someone is watching you and if you screw up, the punishment is death

@Poster101 Yet we see civilians mingling with SAA with no problems, when FSA guys are not near (this being for the reason that when FSA guys are in sights of SAA, there naturally is firefight). Surely there are governement forces keeping people in check, but that's the situation in every other country in this planet. Maybe Somalia being exception, that being failed state. But every other state imposes laws unto their citizens, and will ensure those laws are respected.

well more so in Aleppo, if you know the secret service was right down the street...you would not be openly supporting the opposition even if you wanted to
