Police have arrested one man in connection with the theft of $73 million worth of jewellery, considered one of the biggest heists in British history.
But the suspect is not one of the two men caught on a security camera. Police released footage of the two well-dressed men on Tuesday who are still wanted. Authorities believe there are at least four suspects involved.
The 50-year-old man who was arrested has been released on bail.
The robbers made off with a total of 43 items, including high-end rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches worth an estimated £40 million.
Two men had walked into Graff Jewellers in London’s high-end shopping district on Bond Street late afternoon last Thursday.
They pulled out handguns and ordered the staff to get to the floor. As they left, they brought a female staff member outside the shop but left her there as they made their getaway in a blue BMW, police said.
She was not harmed. The gunmen also fired a shot outside the store but no one was injured.
The suspects drove off, and it is believed they switched cars and got into a silver Mercedes, police said.
At another point, it is also believed some of the suspects transferred into a black Ford Galaxy or VW Sharan.
