  • Basically it's a yacht with a few small weapons intended to transport captured pirates back to Europe so they can claim asylum.

I think they could dump the radar gear and mount a vulcan cannon... and pull a rat patrol along the somali coast on a calm, moonless night!!
      Yo, flying Dutchman,

  • Good looking boat, almost looks like a pleasure cruiser with a cannon added on the front and a decent radar. Wasn't aware that there were piracy problems in Holland's seas. Figured would be more used to stop asylum seekers.

I dunno... that Antilles place looks pretty good! I might have to go ask for asylum there, especially if my boat is extra leaky and I get a ride on that ship :P

I agree, NECKSHOT, Dutch got a FINE Island off the coast of south america. Awesome spot and island archatecture. Can't recall the name of the island...no, I'm too lazy to google it but the US navy put S-3's on the island and it pissed off Hugo Chavez claiming "Yankee invasion"
      lol.
Just war hoovers running drug survelliance, trying to sell the platform

  • Needs short range AA missiles.

    Posted Jul-8-2012 By

    (2)

    • @Meevinman yeah I totally agree, no AA defence systems, no missiles and no torpedoes. It seems totally under gunned to me, against another navy (not shitt pirates) this boat would be useless.

    • @Meevinman
our other bat ships use the goalkeeper as the last line of defence, see my prev upload

    • @Challenge Accepted The same goes for our Armidale class, i am sure some sought of offensive/defensive AA system could be added.

    • @Meevinman ah the RAN what a bunch of idiots, yeah lets design and build our own submarines, that'll be a good idea....

  • This ship seems pretty under gunned to me. No missiles at all? No torpedoes? No AA defence systems? This thing wouldn't be much use in a large scale conflict.

    • @Challenge Accepted
just dont need it for the task it has been given, btw ships are not allone in a full scale conflict and allways move in formation

zey hidden so dont get wet ;P

    • @Challenge Accepted

The reality is that most ships aren't much use anymore in large-scale conflicts. Any ship that wants to stay afloat needs a massive missile-defense system, probably coordinated across an entire task force or fleet, and even then a capable opponent with state-of-the-art missiles would probably sink the navy pretty quickly. These newer stealth ships might stand half a chance, but a ship on the water's surface is a hard thing to hide, and they are safe almost nowhere anymore More..

    • @buzzardist I understand the new littoral defence ship strategy being tested at the moment but it seems a waste of time to me, why bother building vessels that can only do half the job?

As for having a low radar signature that is a great assest, when combined with adequate defence! I doubt the low radar profile of this vessel will have much use against Somali pirates, so why bother at all? Up gun it add some AA defence and then you have a useful vessel.

    • @NECKSHOT be they in formation or not a ship is always alone - there is no where for a ship to hide on the open ocean.

Why bother with a low radar signature for battling pirates? If your going to spend billions on radar technology in a ship why not purchase some decent weapon systems to? A low radar profile ship with no AA defence....genius

  • Is it considered a frigatte or a light destroyer????

    Posted Jul-8-2012 By

    (1)

    • @Devastation99
it is a ocean-going patrol vessel
and 3 more of this type are being build
they are build to do coastal patrols or anti terrorist operations or anti piracy operations and of course anti drugs operations, it has the integrated mast module wich houses, smile, seastar and gatekeeper.
