Or to think that the 2 month payroll tax cut is anything other than a cynical joke.

An you think a 2 MONTH tax break will help the economy?

    • @Rob8729 It will help the people who are affected most by the state of the economy. The rich right now aren't struggling. They're enjoying the lowest taxes they've had since the 20's and the top 10% of the country currently controls more than 90% of the wealth. They aren't struggling. The lower and middle class, who are most affected by the payroll tax, are struggling. This is designed to give them a bit of relief.

2 months? it's ridiculous...and will cause chaos in payroll departments all over the land. At least the Republicans wanted to extend this ineffectual reduction for a year.

Bush already proved that these kinds of small consumer rebates are useless (Democrats criticized him for them, if you'll remember), and what's worse about this plan is that these payroll taxes are the sole funding for the bankrupt Social Security system.

So, they will do nothing to create jobs, they will More..

  • I would bet that at least 50% of veiwers do not understand what this "Tax cut means" ..especially when framed with other negatives.
The 'Tax CUT' is the LOWERED tax rate rich folks pay.

    • @circularlife True. Employers are given more incentive to hire with a payroll tax cut and people save more money. Since the rich spend a much smaller portion of their income on living expenses this tax cut will provide the greatest benefit for the working class.

Which would be better, 2 months or a year?

    • @vicsemprini Considering the fact that the CBO crunched the numbers and determined that letting unemployment benefits expire would have a more drastic effect on aggregate demand I'd say that the two month choice with benefits was the right thing to do.

The 'Tax CUT' means the Govt is taking less money from the successful people of the country and throwing away less money on welfare for the losers who get a free ride.

    • @lostonthebeach The successful people are more successful than ever. They control more of the wealth and are enjoying lower taxes than ever before. The payroll tax cut affects working men and women in the lower and middle classes. Pure welfare to non-working people is a drop in the bucket. Most benefits are actually working people who are trapped in poverty because low level menial service jobs have replaced the majority of our manufacturing sector.

Don't worry about the rich. They are doing b More..

It's a Democrat dream: you can try to fool the white working class you're actually doing something positive for them while you create chaos for their employers and bankrups their social security system.

    • @vicsemprini Yes only white people work. It's not going to cause shit for chaos in payroll departments.

Let me do the math for you. Minus 2% on the payroll tax per person. My mother is a CPA for a firm that trains firefighters and makes their equipment. When I just asked her about it she didn't seem too concerned. Lol.

      From your link:

UPDATE: Asked about this letter, White House press secretary Jay Carney said today that “because Congress was so slow to get its work done, last year this was an issue when the payroll tax cut was extended — that it was so late in the year that it had — it created complications, A. But it — those were worked out. B, you know, this president is committed to make sure that his administration — the Treasury Department and his administration works with Amer More..
