Dramatic CCTV shows the shop assistant wrestling with the hooded thug after he burst into a corner shop in Staffordshire
Covering his face with a balaclava, the yob threatened the shopkeeper with a knife, But the worker, known as Raja, bravely dodged the blade swipes to tackle the assailant with just a bottle of wine to defend himself.
The 3.38-minutes of footage shows a greetings card stand and other shop items being thrown around Dartmouth Food and Wine store in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in the struggle.
During the fight, the assistant managed to rip off the man’s balaclava, exposing his face to the security camera.
He was later identified as 29-year-old Christopher Hall.
Hall, who escaped with just three packets of cigarettes, was traced after he cut his hand and left blood on the till.
Yesterday, he was jailed for three years at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
The shop assistant was left traumatised by the incident and no longer works at the shop, but issued a statement after Hall was jailed.
It read: “I believed he was going to kill me. I will never forget this incident."
Student Majuran Kathirkanathan, 26, who works at the shop which is owned by his family said: "There have been cases of people trying to run off with spirits before but nothing as violent as this.
"We are very happy that he has been jailed for three years."
