  • Terrible tragedy though amazing clarity to this video. My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

  • Why are these stage contractors so stupid. Two of these things have fallen in the last few weeks and in both cases high winds were to blame. Heads should roll over this there are no excuses.

    • @kuba999 i would say the organizers have a real big guilt in this cause they didnt postpone and evacuate quickly enough the event.I think it wasnt a matter of IF it was a matter of WHEN....sorry for the victims

    • @Univert They aren't "new," but it seems like bad storms are hitting populated areas more often now.

  • Horrific accident........."Authorities said they have confirmed at least three deaths after a stage collapsed Saturday night during a storm at the Indiana State Fair, where the country group Sugarland was set to perform.
About two dozen people were reported injured in the incident at the fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Strong winds caused the stage rigging for the outdoor concert to collapse, trapping and injuring concert-goers shortly before 9 p.m. No one was performing at the time. The openi More..

  • The Indiana State Fair has hosted thousands of concerts just like this, never have they had a tragedy like this. It's one of the best State Fair's in the country and has the biggest grandstand of them all (U.S.A.) and like out of a nightmare, this happens. Such a shame and pity for the families of the dead. I heard the death toll may rise due to the severity of the injuries to many.

  • OMG, I cant believe only 4 people died. There were at least 10-20 people in that front area alone that got smashed by the roof of that thing coming down like literally a ton of bricks. Damn.

  • Looked like they were starting to clear the area just before it collapsed. Could have been a lot worse.

  • Unfortunately the stage was built by a company located in my hometown. Stages are not built to witstand these winds and chances are that any stage built to current standards wouls also have collapsed. Mother nature > human construction.

    • @slambamthankyoumam I dunno slam. The way the roof acted as a sail, if there were some kind of wall to prevent the air from getting underneath (but impossible because an open side is needed) or tear away flaps on the roof tarp, that would vent the wind out, then it might be safer. See the afterward videos.

  • Looking at how tarp style roof acted as a sail (it is very large) I wonder whether tear away flaps could vent the air out, kind of like a stock car roof vent, to prevent the roof from becoming a sail. This is not the first time this has happened.

  • If you notice the people that were right in front of the stage (before collapse) start to run directly away from the stage right the very momemnt before the collapse. They must have heard the stage making noises or something because one split-second later it collapsed and there would have been 40 to 50 people crushed instantly had they not moved right before hand. It's amazing that they all started to move right before it collasped (right directly in front of the stage, I'm not talking about t More..

  • I know by experience around this time of the year Indiana and parts of the midwest has some pretty crazy weather patterns but building this huge stage and assuming it would stand up to 100 mph winds is insane.
