American Narcos: The Real 'Masters of Paradise'

As the body count climbs across Mexico, the drugs continue flowing across the border by the ton.

Despite the evident disconnect--a "war" on drugs that increasesthe supply while lowering the price, in the best tradition of our reigning "free market" ideology--the American media regales the public with fairy tales of heroic "warriors" doing battle with murderous gangsters named "Joaquín," "Jorge" and "Amado."

The fact is, more likely than not, the real narcos taking the biggest cut from deep inside the reeking abattoir of the grisly trade have far less prosaic names like "Brett," "Ethan" or "Jason."

'The Only Liquid Investment Capital'

Earlier this month, The Observer reported that "The vast profits made from drug production and trafficking are overwhelmingly reaped in rich 'consuming' countr

After a three week hit parade by the media, the govenor of Michigan just banned K2/Spice. He thinks that is going to stop people from smoking it lol.

I don't use the stuff, but I already know what comes from banning these things, it makes them a. more profitable and b. more desirable to the youth.

Should have regulated it not banned it

I'm all about people being able to use cannabis. Totally agree with you on that. BTW did you know the word marijuana is a negative slang word for cannabis? We need to start calling this plant by what it's proper name and I think it will slowly start to change the "straights" perception of it. The word Marijuana, weed, pot etc have negative connotations, whereas it's true scientific name, cannabis, has none of those negative associations. Just my $.02

  • And to think, this supposed grand conspiracy would never work were it not for Americans' disgusting demand for intoxicants. You drug users are every bit as guilty as any cartel hitman in all this.

Even animals like to drink alcohol and alter their mindstate. It is hard wired into human psyche to do drugs. If you drink beer you are doing a drug. If you smoke cigarettes you are doing a drug. If you drink coke, pepsi, or mt dew you are doing a drug. Everyone does drugs whether you want to admit it or not. The problem is certain classes or types of drugs are state sponsored while others are not. That gulf is where 99% of the problems from drugs come from. The crime, the murder More..

  • Hah. Yes of course, it's got to be evil Americans. Mexico is a broken narco-state, corrupt from top to bottom. They fight to keep the border open, then cry that the border is open.

We've got our own problems to deal with, it's not our responsibility to fix theirs.

    • @Norml It's really amazing what apologists and excuse makers are willing to pretend to believe.

Even if you got your way, and Americans gave up their gun rights, and we put crack/meth vending machines on every corner, it wouldn't fix Mexico.

They're broken and run by organized crime. They're not all going to get jobs at Wal Mart simply because they can't sell drugs anymore.
