So it's OK to launch missles at Israeli civilians and try to kill them, but when the IDF does it, it's a war crime?

I agree with you.
In the other hand...
I think Militants inside Palestine, should focus their attacks against the Israeli Army, instead of randomly shooting rockets into Civilian Areas.
Of course they SHOULD but they DON'T. If their 11,000 pieces of ordinance fired into Israel would have been more accurate, Operation Cast Lead's civilian casualties would have paled in comparison. I've always said the INTENT of Hamas killing Israeli civilians was always there, they just lacked the accuracy of their weapons to actually kill Israeli civilians.
The IDF never targeted civilians, Hamas always does. Sure there are isolated cases of human shields, supposed school and hospital attacks, but the truth is Gaza is a densely populated area with 400,000 residents and it would be impossible to avoid ANY collateral damage even with the most surgical of tactical strikes in the area.
Hamas just wants dead Israelis, they don't care if they are military or soft targets. The proof is how they deployed their rockets and mortars on non-military targets over and over again.
I understand many of the reasons for the Palestinians hating Israel, but they can't play both sides of the fence attacking civilians and then screaming "war crimes" when their forces clearly use heavily populated areas from which to stage their attacks against Israel.
It's all a question of accuracy verses intent, the IDF just has better weapons.
