  • Something tells me that American systems are more sophisticated but difference is not critical anyway.

  • Wouldn't the covering around the all the barrels defeat the purpose of having separate barrels?

    • @djkrunch No, why do you think that to be the case? Six barrels of this Gatling-type gun work like six barrels of any other. Only one barrel fires at a time, the cadence of the gun is dependent on the speed of the rotation of the six barrels.

The case is needed because this gun is watercooled, which allows for even longer bursts without overheating the barrels, improving prescision etc.

    • @Uac_mitun_ahau I would have figured the heat would transfer through the cover to/from each barrel, granted I'm sure it was tested thoroughly and obviously in production now, so I guess it isn't that much of an issue especially if water is kept inside the cover which works better for the weapon system because you would want the heat to transfer into the water to dissipate.

    • @djkrunch It is very much like the old Maxim machineguns, which also had water jacket around the barrel. I guess these modern watercooling systems are different in that a constant stream of cold water is forced through the jacket, improving the cooling effect. Stagnant water would heat up pretty quickly; also, there would probably be a buildup of layers of steam around the heated barrels, insulating them and hindering heat transfer to the water. Force high-pressure cold water through the sleeve More..

    • @Uac_mitun_ahau Makes sense. Using stagnant water would be risky.

  • The Kashtan CIWS mounts two of these + 8 SAM's, just in case 167 30mm shells a second isn't enough.
