LOS ANGELES - A 16-year-old girl who was having a late-night driving lesson with her father struck and injured two pedestrians at a Florence area taco stand then fled the scene after seeing the damage, police said today.

The crash near 59th Place and Broadway happened about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Los Angeles police Sgt. Kevin Moore of Central Traffic Division said.

The teenager was driving an unknown vehicle with her father in the front passenger seat and an 18-year-old woman in the backseat, Moore said. She crashed through a gate, into a parking lot, hitting two pedestrians and destroying a taco stand.

The two teenagers got out of the car, saw the injured pedestrians and ran away, Moore said. The girls were followed by other pedestrians at the scene and brought back to the location.

The father allegedly panicked, driving the car from the crash, Moore said. He was followed by a driver in the area and returned to the scene.

Two people had visible injuries and were complaining of pain, Moore said. They were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The teenage girl was expected to be booked later today on suspicion of felony hit and run charges, Moore said.

It was unclear if she had a driver's permit, Moore said.

Police continued the investigation at the scene early today.
