Reality Check: The Fiat Dollar is the real reason for high gas prices

There is so much talk right now about gas prices.

Who's at fault? Is it President Obama for not drilling enough? Is it OPEC for price fixing? Could it be greedy oil companies?

There are many reasons being floated as to why gas prices are so high but there is one that you aren't going to hear from most media and it is tied directly to the value of the dollar in your pocket.

Ben has the Reality Check.

    • @ValleyBlacksmith whats so funny is republicans call him a kook for just telling you the way it is. They dont like his foreign policy. I guess they would like an even more bankrupt america with a "strong" foreign policy borrowed from china of course.

Agreed. Ron Paul is miscontrued, misquoted and outright railroaded at every turn by the establishment. People need to see the fake left/right puppet show for what it is. The establishment fears Ron Paul because they know full well when he says he will clean house in Washington and return this republic to the constitution and governance of the people by the people and for the people that he means it. That is the very last thing they will allow to happen. As far as his foriegn More..

  • To blame one person or one organization is retarded. A single raindrop isn't to blame for the flood.

  • Ben Swann is an American hero. Keep fighting the good fight, brave sir.

Now a bit about the election. Santorum wants everybody to focus on women's vaginas and gay guys penises. He is a distraction candidate zeroing in on a few pointless issues that get stupid, ultra-religious christians riled up. Newt promises 2.50 a gas but has no idea how he's going to accomplish that. Romney says empty rhetoric about fixing America with nothing to back it up.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who will shrink o More..

  • SO it is Obama's fault for over-printing money to bail out corrupt banks.

    • @meximeltdown Most of that money sent out in emergency loans has come back through a revolving door and been destroyed to combat inflation.

  • Interesting, the US dollar was devalued the second we stepped away from the gold standard during the Nixon years. The value of our currency will continue to fall untill it reaches its mean value which by then the Fed will have developed the new monitary system. Ww will be required to exchange our old dollars in... and since most people maintain so little on hand cash, gold, silver... this will all be done electroniclly through the banking system. I woudl suggest looking back at the agreement More..

  • You got to love fiat currency. Made out of thin air. Delivered at interest. Worth a smaller fraction of value when returned. The Trifecta of screw jobs.

    • @absu69 They do until March 20th. Thus is why the war drums are beating so loud. Punch_The_Monkey is the one who doesn't understand the World oil market and the Petrodollar.

    • @mdscorpio71 So isn't it possible that oil companies and other major gas consuming corporations and speculators are starting to hedge bets. I mean isn't the timing with the threat to close the straits telling of the true cause or is it merely coincidence?

    • @BigDaddyHarrison Speculation does have a great deal to do with it, no doubt. What I am suggesting is that on March 20th the Iranian Oil Bourse will officially cease trading Iranian Oil for US dollars and instead will only accept other currencies (Yen, Yuan, Euro, Rupee). The world demand for oil will not change, but the world demand for US dollars to buy that oil will change dramatically.

  • By the way, the US has the lowest prices of gasoline in the world (oil producing nations which subsidize gasoline are excluded). This guy doesn't understand what having the dollar as the world's reserve currency does for our economy.

    Posted Mar-1-2012 By

  • The price is because Iran is not accepting US dollars because they are worthless.

just saying that 4$ is still relatively cheap and im happy to pay more as long as I dont have to sell my soul to the saudis

    • @dyus

Since you are in Europe, your soul is pretty much sold to the Saudis...or the Iranians. There's maybe a bit of oil from Nigeria, Russia, and a few other places, but Europe is the Middle East's biggest customer.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., we're propping up Chavez in Venezuela.
