Many in India see the rat as past relatives or ancestors. You should google it, it's crazy. Some of their cities are over run by them (intentionally) and nothing is done about it based on their religious beliefs.
Not only do they allow them to eat after them and infest their homes and streets by thousands, but they actually feed them. Wouldn't want to starve old gramps that died in 1960!
