  • Slit scanning? Isn't that what drunk women do on a photocopier at the Xmas party??

  • I thought slit scanning was comparing camel toes. This sucks.

  • I heard slit and got excited. Imagine my disappointment.

  • This is an exaggeration of the jello effect. Most modern video cameras do not refresh the entire image frame at once. Instead, they refresh the image one line at a time. They do this incredibly quickly so in 99% of conditions it is not noticeable. However, take a look at videos of aeroplane propellers and moving car windscreen wipers. You'll see that the propeller blades and wiper blades appear to be bent. That is caused by the jello effect. Set your camera to record and then move it quickly fro More..

    • @jackflint You are exactly right about the jello effect. Here, the time delay isn't coming from the camera, it's done in software. By overlapping about 400 layers of the same video and masking all but one scan line, they can simulate the original video while gaining control over time functions for each scan line or "slit". Each video is played with a 1/100th second delay from the previous video, giving you a weird four second delay from top to bottom. This is easily done in a progr More..

Just to add info: Jello effect, skew, smear, and partial exposure in this modern cameras, are the result of the use of rolling shutters in CMOS sensors.

  • Muisc: Beirut - La Llorona

Ever away from seeing more than life
The morning lies miles away from the night
No man ever could steal her heart
But with bright gold coins, I'll take my shot

And all it takes to fall
If you don't walk, might as well crawl

    All it takes to fall
What a quiet world after all
Of the things that you guessed will come
What a moment it was after all

from Wiki: Slit-scan is an animation created image by image. Its principle is based upon the camera’s relative movement in relation to a light source, combined with a long exposure time. The process is as follows:

An abstract colored design is painted on a transparent support
This support is set down on the glass of a backlighting table and covered with an opaque masking into which one or more slits have been carved.
