  • Nice to see VH touring again. DLR lost a bit of his wild mojo - but hey, we are all aging.

  • I remember when Eddie Van Halen took "best guitarist" honors away from Jimmy Page in Playboy magazine.

VH was the 80's. They changed Rock and Roll.

    Long Live Rock and Roll!

  • Yes they were. Dave is so friggin dirty. How does one do continuos obscene posing for many minutes, maybe hours while singing that awesome and boinging around all over the stage like that? He must of been a great athlete.

  • I wouldn't say they are they "greatest," but I'll never forget the first time I heard "Unchained." Wow, pretty sure my teenaged head damned near exploded when Eddie did what he did on the guitar in that song, chugging brewskies in my buddy's dad's backyard in the summer.
*** Sidenote*** The guy's old man was a cop. Nice place. Cool swords. His kid, my bud, was an animal, though, hated his dad and all cops, maybe to be cool, maybe because he knew them better than we did, anyh More..

Thanks for sharing that story. It was pretty interesting, and it sure made me smile. Yes, you were all 'little bastards'...lol.
My tastes ran more mello, I guess. I preferred the Beach Boys, Peter Paul and Mary, Gordon Lightfoot, ect. To each his own. Carry on, Michael.

I grew up with Van Halen. And as a then-aspiring guitar player, of course Eddie was the cock of the walk, the one with THE guitar licks and sound to try and copy.
In part, Roth copied his look, attire, and antics from Jim Dandy from Black Oak Arkansas.

Nothing wrong with mello sounds of Gordon Lightfoot or the Beachboys or PP&M.... if you're OLD.

      :P

      PS: Carrying on, "pops."

      LOL

      Cheers brother.

They always reminded me of Led Zeppelin where looks and style came in, the blond lead singer prancing about, the dark haired lead guitarist spitting out chords, but their sound was all their own. Very original.

  • I actually like some scorpions songs more than van halen songs, but van halen has more songs that you can listen to and enjoy.

  • Don't know how I missed it back then but Diamond Dave is gay as hell!

  • Rock and roll today is so lame when compared to this stuff from 30 years ago! Van Halen smokes any band from the last 10 to 20 years!

Diver Down wasn't Eddie's fault. Ted Templeman and Roth put the pressure on to do a whole mess of covers, which Eddie was vehemently against. The guitar synth riff on "Dancing in the Street" - Eddie intended for an original. Templeman corralled him into using it for the cover tune.
1984 was a good album. But the rift between Roth and Eddie was well under way. I saw them that year. Then poof, the break.
At first I thought Hagar was the ideal replacement, but I soon changed More..
