  • Ah, the original UFC. When nobody knew what would happen when you put taekwondo against karate, or a sumo wrestler against a boxer. Real fights.

It all came to an end when that Brazilian jiu-jitsu crap appeared. Fights stopped being exciting and decisive like this one, and started turning into ten minutes of pure boredom, rolling around on the ground waiting for the opponent to make a mistake.

Nowadays, it's pure commercial crap. None of it would have happened if boxing weren't so corrup More..

the original UFC was in fact specifically created to showcase and promote Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, one of the gracie family members was one of the founders of the original UFC

One thing though, the Brazilans showed the martial arts world that their traditional disciplines sucked a big one and that clenching and ground fight was the king of all. This is when I lost my respect for karate and boxing. You can be the best boxer around but I can make you fight MY way and I will clench you down to the floor, all you will get on me is probably a punch to my back as I'm putting your arse down to the floor.

    • @Texan_in_China: Crap meaning you don't understand BJJ and have no ground skills.

Any solid amateur fighter at my school could beat most of those guys back in 94'. Fighting has evolved, you apparently haven't.

    • @maxwellthebest: Because you are a weak lazy little bitch and can't fight man to man, typical.

I doubt you carry a gun everywhere you go.

  • Never...EVER....Bring a face to an elbow fight.

Props to Pat Smith for seeing he was out and stopping himself. Alot of guys keep wailing until the ref jumps in. It's good sportsmanship. Something you don't see as often as you should these days.

    • @Zardoz003 Well this match was actually the reason the UFC introduced many rules.

So what were some of those rules?

This guy polished off his opponent in about 15 seconds. The other guy was trying to stand up, and looked like he didn't know what hit him.
I's like to know what became of both of these guys.

Ok, it was only one rule but an important one, the ref got the power to stop the match.

"At UFC 2 Patrick Smith had beaten Scott 'the ninja' Morris senseless, in one of the worst beat downs ever seen; but due to the lack of a referee stoppage rule 'Big' John McCartney was helpless to do anything and glared over at Morris' corner, who looked away and refused to throw in the towel. With Morris basically unconscious, Smith thankfully decided to stop beating on him, got up and wa More..

Thanks for that excellent update. I totally did not know about referee stoppage rules. I guess I always took it for granted. Nowadays, it looks like the ref's will only allow about 5 unanswered strikes before they throw themselves between the fighters.
Thanks for passing this on, ingeborgsjon.

      did you find out?

I watched six times and couldn't see anything but a crushed orbital bone. I assumed it was still in his head because it wasn't dangling on his cheek.

  • That was quick, but in my experience, could have gone the other way around just as easily. It's all the luck of the first strike, who gets the upper hand.

except kuala clench fighting doesn't actually exist anywhere else other than this mans head.

    • @phobeus I dont know what koala bear clench fighting is, but I know that I have seen many a brawler, or street fighter kick the living shit out of some so called martial artists. I trained in the martial arts for many many years when I was young. It is cool, but all it does is give you more tools to do the job, not the only tool. I've seen 150 pound guys beat the monkey fuck out of 225 lb guys. I hate to use that old cliche' but sometime, not all the time, "It's the size of the fight in the More..
