Helium is not harmless. It can kill. Movies where helium is inhaled use medical-grade helium (no toxins, high purity) and have para-medics and oxygen standing by.

PS NEVER inhale helium. It inhibits the breathing reflex which relies on carbon dioxide and people STOP breathing, can't restart and die from lack of oxygen - no kidding.

@Triode It also makes you sound like Donald Duck. That's why people inhale it. It's an inert gas, didn't know about the breathing reflex problem. I know a lot of people who've inhaled it.

That or nitrogen gas would be an ideal way to execute criminals. Totally painless and just makes them feel euphoric, while they die. It would be a more human way to put animals to sleep than carbon monoxide gas.

@Blklight I heard a long time ago the only place they knew of to get helium was in the Amarillo, Texas area. That's why the Hindenburg, filled with hydrogen, burned.

@TMoray1 That was the only place it was refined and stored, The US wanted to control the worlds supply of He because of the possibility of it being used against them in war. Ill try and find the free documentery i watched and ill link it here when i find it, it was very good.
