and now it sucks because the fighters are more concerned with prolonging their careers. Look at St-Pierre who always goes all 5 rounds rather than taking risks that might get him injured.

This shit confuses me. So the boxer has to wear gloves and adhere to the rules of boxing but the other dude gets to come in bare fisted and is allowed to just do whatever?
It looks to me as if they were just beating the shit out of each other and the ref called it because of an arm lock.

@saturn5 You've never heard of the UFC? Back in it's original days there were very few rules to the sport. Shoes were optional, gloves were optional, and many people went in to the sport thinking that their boxing was all they needed. He wore the gloves to protect his hands, not because he had to. He knew he wanted to throw heavy punches and you can fuck up your hands pretty easily after doing that a bit. Especially any ground and pound that might miss and hit the mat.

@saturn5 No no... Early UFC things were still very much style-vs-style. Back when everybody would debate who/what would win. Karate, or mui thai. Kung fu, or boxing. etc. etc. When MMA hit the scene all of these people showed up to prove their "style", their discipline, would dominate. Boxers were allowed to wear boxing gloves if they wanted to. Wrestlers were allowed to wear the little wrestling shoes. Karate guys were allowed to wear their gi. etc. The rules were the same for both fi More..
