Not running, actually. It's driven by an electric motor.
Looks cool, though.

You are right, its powered by elctric motor. its just to show how a lubrication oil works...

@dunedad a hanging robe or a tie, to me there is no difference when working with the industrial machines especially the Lathe..

LOL to all the people who think the engine is actually running and will die soon without oil.

@khartoba It WILL eventually die without oil, it is being turned by a motor but there's still hella friction on the moving parts.

@Repost_Police No combustion means a LOT less heat that'll progress the friction. She won't seize up for a very long time, not enough speed nor heat to do so.

Um no... the massive amount of heat from the combustion causes the pistons and rings to expand, creating the "hella friction" you're talking about. In this case there is very little heat, due to the lack of combustion, and if you've ever replaced a piston or ring, you'd know there isn't "hella friction" when the engine is cold and the pistons haven't expanded.

@khartoba Actually, I HAVE replaced piston rings, and all those rings are bearings are designed to be bathed and squirted in pressurized oil constantly. The fact the engine is cold will slow down the wear but won't eliminate it, he is only going to get an hour or two of use out of his demonstration engine before it won't turn anymore.

I think you need to check your compression...

nice.
A good way to show people how the engine actually works. It ain't gonna last very long though, no oil.

External combustion engine?

That engine isn't running, it is being rotated somehow, probably by a starter.
For one thing, it can't gain compression without cylinder walls to help create it. For another thing, it would be MUCH louder without an exhaust manifold. Finally, there appears to be no form of fuel injection that I see.
Nonetheless, cool video seeing the inside of an engine at moving.

@GreatWalrus though the same thing.. no fuel combustion to be seen in the cilinders.

Kind of obvious.
I don't see why he's letting it run that fast when it's open and not oiled, it can do some serious harm when something breaks off.

@driz Looks like it might be an auto parts/repair place - maybe it is a demo engine to show the customers.

electric motor on the guys side, pistons need compression to push down for rotation, this is fake but it is turning over.

They just spin the crankshaft is all to display the inner workings. That seems to be around 500-800rpm. I've seen one reach 1500 rpm and holy shit the pistons just turn into a giant cylinder of blur.. so I could only imagine 7000rpm
Got to love the physics of this universe

@Sacr3 I have heard that in a high rpm sports car engine the pistons are undergoing more violent accelerations and decelerations than a bullet experiences in a gun barrel. Seems believable.

A electrical motor is running the engine belt. So its not a running engine, its a spinned engine, by a running electrical motor. :) Its nice to see inside anyway.

no fuel system, no spark, open chambers, zero combustion. ummmm running by a electrical pulley. Purely to show the four different strokes of an internal combustion engine for students no doubt.
cool though!
