Three economic activities produce wealth: mining, manufacturing (put construction in this catagory..the manufacture of buildings), and agriculture. The entire economic model of Vegas is skimming the disposable income of individuals engaged in wealth producing activities off the top. It should be no suprise that the Vegas economy tanked when people's disposable income dried up.

Is anyone really surprised?
A whole city built in the middle of the desert, their only source of income is gambling/hotels, they produce nothing, they farm nothing, they have nothing to fall back on.
Las Vegas is the Saudi Arabia of America. Once the 'oil' drys up they are fucked.

Is this situation truly a surprise? Vegas has grown so fast in the last two decades, a pull back in its economy has been inevitable.

We will have to ask their banks to create more money to pay those debts and when we ask those banks to make more money we create debt because we have to buy the money from the banks.
