This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

The show ran for five seasons from 1965 to 1970 with 139 episodes. There was also a 1985 movie called "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 years later".
A movie called "The Brass Bottle" with Barbara Eden as Tony Randall's girlfriend and Burl Ives as a Djinn was part of the inspiration for the show. That and the fact that Bewitched on rival network ABC was about the second most popular show on TV, which meant NBC was pushing for a money cow of the same vein. The producers of Bewitched accused Jeannie of stealing some of their ideas. I think it was probably because a writer James Henerson was writing for both shows, there's bound to be some similarities in that case.
The first season was in B&W with a different jazz waltz theme song. Which was strange because all prime time shows were being made in color by 1965, word is that the studio was too cheap to spring for color. For whatever reason I don't have a copy of that first season opening or I would have included it here. Ah well, I got the opening you all know and love anyway.
I noticed that in this show they all drive Pontiacs. Love the cars from yesteryear. An early example of product placement.
