Safe Mode: On
Retro TV I Dream of Jeannie

This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

http://www.liveleak.com/c/Retro_TV_

The show ran for five seasons from 1965 to 1970 with 139 episodes. There was also a 1985 movie called "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 years later".

A movie called "The Brass Bottle" with Barbara Eden as Tony Randall's girlfriend and Burl Ives as a Djinn was part of the inspiration for the show. That and the fact that Bewitched on rival network ABC was about the second most popular show on TV, which meant NBC was pushing for a money cow of the same vein. The producers of Bewitched accused Jeannie of stealing some of their ideas. I think it was probably because a writer James Henerson was writing for both shows, there's bound to be some similarities in that case.

The first season was in B&W with a different jazz waltz theme song. Which was strange because all prime time shows were being made in color by 1965, word is that the studio was too cheap to spring for color. For whatever reason I don't have a copy of that first season opening or I would have included it here. Ah well, I got the opening you all know and love anyway.

I noticed that in this show they all drive Pontiacs. Love the cars from yesteryear. An early example of product placement.

  • Another good one Rikki, I have to say, I don't always care for the content in the videos; but it is the originality, creativity and persistence you have that makes them enjoyable to watch.

      Thanks for saying.

You know, I don't even like all the content. I can't imagine anyone could like all of it.

Some of the appeal of retro I think is that people often need some context to memory. Some audio, video, smell taste etc that lights up neurological pathways long unused. My dad sat there and repeated the entire commercial for the game "Stay Alive". When the kid at the end says "I'm the sole survivor" my dad said the line on cue, even had the exact l More..

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi I couldn't have said it better myself; and projects like your's is what makes Liveleak unique. It may not get the big view counts, but you can rest assured knowing that you've created something that, in time (and present) will be cherished, appreciated and revered.

Well, being on liveleaks "recent items" or whatnot is not really where the views for a series like this are going to come from. LL is not a hugely popular video site on the scale of things after all.

But if I can build a comprehensive archive that people may come to know about and want to use for whatever reason then the hyperlinks, embeds and even people downloading and posting the videos elsewhere, will come. "If you build it they will come" eh? lol
