SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A Schenectady woman has been arrested and charged with manslaughter after police say she stabbed her neighbor to death Monday night.
27-year-old Tina Karuzas, of 201 Elm Street, is facing charges of first-degree manslaughter with intent to cause physical injury by a judge Tuesday morning.
Police say the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. between Karuzas and the victim, 26-year-old Latoya Ebron, who lived in another apartment in the Elm Street home.
Police say Karuzas, who lived on the second floor, and Ebron, who lived on the first floor, were arguing at the homeover Karuzas playing loud music. The victim allegedly asked Karuzas to
turn down her music because she was trying to put her kids to bed, and
when the music did not lower the intensity of the fight started to escalate and resulted in the stabbing.
Responding officers arrived to find Ebron with a stab wound to the mid-section. She was taken to Albany Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
Neighbors tell NEWS10 the two females have been arguing the past few months because Ebron liked to have parties and play loud music.
Police say Karuzas told them she stabbed Ebron in self-defense after she tried to hit her.
Ebron was arrested by the Schenectady Police Department in September 2009 for aggravated harassment and harassment with physical contact.
Karuzas was arraigned in Schenectady City Court Tuesday morning. In court, she wept and shook as she sat waiting to hear from the judge. Karuzus's hot pink hair fell around her face as
she held her forehead and continued to shake. She has been remanded to
the Schenectady County Jail without bail and will be back in court on Friday.
Schenectady police say the investigation is ongoing and there are no further details at this time.
