  • Thousands of meteor hunters will descend on the place. Selling batteries for their metal detectors should be good business for a few weeks!

  • Imagine this happened in the 60's. That would be the beginning of WW.III

    • @Bob Bubba

Or if the one yesterday had happened over North Korea. Or over the ocean anywhere near NK with no witnesses, yet we record an explosion equivalent to many Hiroshima bombs. Yeah, that would have started some shit all right.

    • @cleetusawreetus Not really. There are numerous nuke detecting satellites and acoustic stations all over the world, and have been for decades.

There are always witnesses to bright flashes, unique pressure waves, and radioactive emissions. Telling the difference between a nuclear detonation and a meteor would not be difficult.

  • I would rather see many different versions of this for the next few weeks instead of that Harlem Shake bullshit.

  • I like the dog in the first video-- running around all tough-like... then comes the boom and the dog is suddenly like "WTF? oh shit-- better go stand next to Vlad!"

    Dogs aren't dumb.

  • so when NASA said they track meteors to make sure they don't hit earth, they just let that one get trough the net? was it because it was going to land in russia? kinda weird that they say that they can track and predict, the trajectory of any asteroid/meteorite, but this one slipped past them. no, not a conspiracy theory. just, interesting.

    • @Blackend_

There is a limit to how big an asteroid has to be before its noticed. This one was small, maybe only 2-5 metres across is my guess. Many times an asteroid is noticed AFTER its past the Earth.

NASA's budget is small, only 17 Billion dollars which is what the Pentagon spends on toilets and toilet paper for Afghanistan and Iraq haha

"Under the Pentagon's proposed budget, the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will drop to $117.8 billion for fiscal year 2012, a reduc More..

    • @Blackend_ I don't think NASA or anyone else has ever said they can track any and all meteors. If anything the general position is they can't without much more resources.

That was a spy satellite you moron.

    • @Blackend_ NASA and its partners can only survey just a fraction of the night sky.

And if the object is coming from the sun's direction, it can't be detected anyways.

  • This is - if I'm not mistaken - the biggest extraterrestrial strike since Tunguska, and it has injured far more people than that event despite it being puny in comparison due to the remote and sparsely populated location of the latter's impact site.

  • I have gotta say, I am in awe at the absolute power of that thing, shows how insignificant we all really are
