Why choose Chicago and Toronto, instead of El Paso and Edmonton? Why, because then you'd find that the US city has a murder rate that's 5 times lower than its Canadian counterpart, and your thesis is blown.

A better question is, why does NYC have 1/3 the murder rate of Chicago, when both have extremely strict gun-control laws? And why does Houston have a murder rate 9 times higher than El Paso, when they have identical and very liberal gun ownership and carry laws?

The only logical conclusion is that gun ownership is uncorrelated to the murder rate, which is only reasonable since guns don't commit murder.

Canada is safer than the US by any global measure. But to claim to identify a cause - any cause - demands statistically valid support, not mere post hoc ergo propter hoc assertion."



actually in terms of violence, Canada has 935 crimes per 100K residents, while the US has 466. And Australia has 92, South Africa has 1609 and the UK has 2034.

also, Canada only allows skilled immigrants in. Anyone can and do come into the US.
