Divella Pasta surprise.... gross.

Wife was preparing a pasta dinner... unfortunately the bag was full of pasta and live bugs.
The bag was sealed air tight, so this was imported from the Divella factory ( Italy) to Taipei. This is not an incident of Taiwan offering a shitty product.. this is Italy's shitty quality control.

  • Weevils are known to hatch and eat your pasta if it lits too long. Its fairly common.

  • It is possible they came from your own pantry. They can chew a tiny hole right through a cello or plastic bag and boxes forget it. They lay their eggs and voila. And you wouldn't see the hole especially in the seam. They're also famous for hatching in flour. Living in S. Fla. were bugs rule, I put every bag/box of pasta/rice that comes home from the store in a zip lock bag and flour is transferred to a plastic jar with tight lid.

    • @Grace37

We do the same after our first experience with those bugs in our bread. Bay leaves also work really well to keep them away, crushed up and sprinkled around in your pantry.

  • eeek... Never saw this thing in years of pasta cooking... Probably the bag has been damaged during transportation or in the depot, and the bugs went into it. I saw similar bug in old flour sacs.
Now I'm going to cook my pasta (it's 12:52 here), my Divella "Penne Ziti 32" says "Best Before 31/12/2013" (seems to be the same af yours) but there are no bugs in there ;)

  • Pretty grody. Reminds me of a pack of Marlboro 25's I had in Hawaii back in the 80's that had worms tunneling through the cigarettes. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get my smoke to light until I realized it had passengers aboard and was riddled with little tunnels.

This is what you have in your pasta~

Trust me, that is what you have no doubt about it. I am very familiar with these little critters because I work in a major pasta manufacturing fac More..

  • Maybe they were actually selling the bugs and the pasta was their enclosed feed.
