The story of "Little Boy", the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima

Nice special effects telling the story of the first nuclear (atomic) weapon use in anger (WW2 in Hiroshima, Japan), hopefully the last war involving nuclear weapons, for humanity's sake.
Translation:
"Little Boy", nickname "sunshine on (some Japanese) river", born in 1945, USA, 4,082 kg, 3.05 meters tall, 0.711 meters waist size, personality: 12.5 kilotons of TNT. At his birth, he was destined for a glorious eternity...

  • It was very cruel, but saved an absolute shitload of allied troops life's, that's for sure.

    • @jhar88 Whilst your comment is well intended and has done the rounds. You will find that Japan was already in the throws of surrendering. It was broke and had no where to go. Germany was gone. Itay was gone and the allied forces were well within air strike distance. Japans navy was all but obliterated as allied fleets were closing in as well.
The states had to 'test' the bombs.

    • @Obba41 As late as surrender time-even after the A-bombs had been dropped-a staff lieutenant colonel, related to the War Minister himself, was fervently convinced that even if the whole Japanese race were all but wiped out, its determination to preserve the National Polity would be forever recorded in the annals of man; whereas a people who sacrificed their will upon the altar of physical existence could never deserve resurrection. It would be useless for the people to survive the war, anyhow, i More..

    • @jhar88 And a shitload of Japanese troops and civilian lives were saved by preventing a need for full scale invasion of the Japanese mainland.

      This as well!
I wasn't trying to discredit the posters comment.
Without a doubt if 'we' had to go onto Japans mainlands to fight there woukd have been a great deal loss of life.

  • I get so tired of this shit. Ask those American and British soldiers that didn't have to invade Japan and their progeny whether it was worth it. The island campaigns made it clear the Japs were a bunch of fucked up kamikazes and nothing less would have stopped them.

This shit that America dropped the atomic bomb on Japan just for revenge and test, holds not truth. There were no sources to such claims before the 1960s. Only after the 60s, these claims started to take hold.

The Japanese leadership wanted to fight to the end, there is no doubt about that. The silly stupid pacifists live in an alternate reality.

  • I only can imagine WTF factor of Japanese when they experienced the event. I hope it was absolutely strategically necessary to do this evil thing to these poor people, not some kind of revenge for Pearl Harbor or just a testing of new toy.

    • @getbentex

Did I ask any question? I know they were not sure if its a time to surrender even after first bombing. However as a man with peaceful and humanistic approach to life Im wonder if there was any chance to decrease casualties.

Perhaps I said stupid things about revenge and tests. There was such desires and motives but they were not primary one.

    • @grifo Its note worthy that four more atomic bombs were planned for Japan, had they not have surrendered.

    • @edgecrusher187

Yeah, Japanese dont like to surrender, so analysts probably decided that it will be long way to deal with them, but fortunately 2 bombings and our declaration of war to them crushed their morale to zero.

As for bombs they were just planned. For whom? Thats a question! ;)

    • @grifo The Emperor's surrender speech specifically referred to the A-bombs as a reason for quitting the war, as well as the declaration of war by the Soviets.

  • Nope. Tallboy was an air burst.

There were no LEDs in 1945, as the "inside the bomb" part shows.

The intense light 'bleached' the surface of the steps before the soldier was vaporized. The same effect happened in other places including a bridge, creating permanent shadows. I believe this clip was from a BBC Documentary titled, "Hiroshima."

The bleaching effect happens during normal daylight as well, but over a much longer period of time. The intense heat from the infrared radiation vaporized many things at close range, the vaporized particles later fall back More..

If a person is a mile from ground zero at a nuclear blast there is no sound or shock wave for a few seconds. Just blinding light and incredible heat which arrives at the speed of light. Traveling at the speed of sound the shock wave hits after about 5 seconds.
Sadly, in the case of Hiroshima some of the shadows left are in the shape of people. A man's shadow is burned into the surface of a concrete footbridge while a woman's shadow shows where she was sitting on the step o More..
