Camille ~ 1969

My ex was born the exact day Camille hit the Gulf Coast. I remember my mom freaking out. We moved to Michigan shortly thereafter... I would have been 5

  • That was a massive storm. We got some of the residual effects all the way up here in Wisconsin.

  • Cool video. I haven't been down in the Biloxi area since Katrina came through, and I know she tore some shit up big time down there, but back in the early 1990's, my wife and I were down there for a visit. I'll never forget eating lunch at a restaurant down there outside on their patio. It was only about 200 yards from the Gulf. There was a huge telephone pole in their parking lot, and it had placards with names of hurricanes on them. Each placard represented the tidal surge height of each o More..

  • I had to comment on this one.

They showed this film on the first day of school in Bradenton, FL. I was 7 and had just moved to Florida from North Carolina. I had never even heard of a hurricane.

    Scared shitless? Oh...a little

  • At the ripe old age of less than a week, I went through my first hurricane, Betsy. I don't remember it. My second, 4 years later, was Camille. We left New Orleans and went to my Uncle's house in Pearl River, but when Camille finally made landfall, we were less than 40 miles away. I remember the sound of the wind mostly, and I remember it was a very long night. My Dad helped rebuild the highway that was destroyed.
