Democracy Died Tonight
Despite the radical freaks here on LL who made fun of the "whining liberals who lost," this represents an issue that we should all be concerned about, whether you lean left or right.

Did Democracy die in 2008 after Obama outspent McCain by huge margins? Or does Democracy just die when the Republicans are on the winning side?

@TIMETOGObama Your missing the difference. In 2008, corporations couldn't give unlimited, untraceable money to a candidate. You think that it's ok for a company in China to donate to a politician here to get their agenda passed? If you do, you live in a fantasy world.

i will say again........if people do not get a check for their vote then you cannot 'buy' an election. The vote is one of the only true things that are left. the only thing campaign money is spent on is advertising, travel, and more fundraising.
as a person who contracts with several companies in Wisconsin, i will tell you that all the business's, large and small, are happy about this vote. Remember businesses, the things that employ people, yea them.

EVERY government union should be illegal. They are why states are broke.
When government unions go to the bargaining table, they bargain with politicians, who are more than willing to give them more money, why? becasue they will get more in campaign donations from the unions!
Who is at the bargaining table for the taxpayer? No one else but Republicans!

@niltomega
That's a reason why FDR never looked at public unions with good eyes. He was the most ardent supporter for unions and our current welfare state, yet he did not allow public employees to form unions. He even warned about this:

@niltomega I work on construction equipment, maintenance. the people i work with are highly skilled, mostly dedicated, and the hiring process is thorough. In other words there really isn't all that many people with their feet up on the desk as you are led to believe. We have to work under nearly impossible conditions - terrible leadership, insane OSHA and EPA regulations, inadequate tools and parts, lack of cooperation and coordination between other units that are supposed to support us - and More..

@Eva_Destruction See that's the misconception with the union, private or public. And that's the illusion that joining a union will give you power when in truth it takes power away from the individual. For instance, I used to work in the Teamsters union, and noticed that as I busted my butt daily, other employees would be taking advantage of the union and slacking their way up. Their also guaranteed the same raises I get regardless of performance! When I quit the union, I got a raise automati More..

I'm sure they are hard workers but I still believe Gov. Unions are a bad idea.

@kingx989 You have a great work ethic. So did I for the first 20 years. All I have to show for it is potentially crippling 9 on a 10 scale degenerative disk disease in my back. So now I MUST WORK more like the ones you speak "taking advantage of the union". I don't know what's up at your former workplace but we have many supervisors that are there so we DO NOT take advantage or as little as possible. I have work restrictions from my doctor now, and they have to respect those or I ca More..

Or...people aren't as sheepish as you make them out to be. Maybe we are fed up paying for the benefits of open handed union folks who have been bleeding us dry for decades.

So the "liberals" think We The People should be barred from donating to the causes of our choice?
Who cares what they think. Taxpayers won big in Wisconsin. Get used to it bitches...this is just the start.

The people of Wisconsin voted (on two different occasions) and the result, (winning percentage) was a percent more the second time.
There was no "blaming money" when øbama outspent McCain.

Liberals are trying to complain that they lost because they got outspent. Yes, money is part of it. The fact is, however, that almost everybody in Wisconsin, according to the polls, was already decided on the issue long before Scott Walker started raising any money, long before any ads were run by outside groups, and long before the recall papers were even filed. The unions and Democrats got a huge amount of free press from their protests around and in the capitol in Madison. Most of that pr More..

The REAL reason Walker easily won is not because of who spent more money.
The whole recall election was brought about by the unions. The unions vs the taxpayers, and the taxpayers won. Walker had a plan, stuck by it, and achieved his goal as promised. (to balance the budget)
I still think those Democrat lawmakers, that fled the state and hid in Illinois so as not to have to vote on the Union Bill, should have been recalled. If any one of us hard-working employees did that, took off for weeks wi More..

@porcubunny What you fail to realize there genius is that union members ARE taxpayers! You ass clowns think this is going to solve your problems? I'm glad the recall failed, now the people in Wisconsin will have plenty of time to feel the effects of the Republican plan. They'll be crying like you never heard before.
