California wants Arizona immigration law overturned

28 Mar 2012

SACRAMENTO, CA - California has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Arizona's tough immigration law, saying it would drive illegal immigrants into other states.

The Arizona law passed two years ago has been largely blocked by court order because of court challenges. Among other things, it makes in a crime to be in the country illegally and to seek work.

The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled an April 25 hearing and a ruling is expected in June.

The San Francisco Chronicle says California Attorney General Kamala Harris has joined 10 other states in asking that the Arizona law be overturned.

Harris says in documents filed Tuesday that the law exceeds state authority, conflicts with national policy and would drive illegal immigrants into other states.

  • Hey, here's an idea~ How about we round up all these illegal aliens who don't belong here and make a special place for them all their own. We could call it "MEXICO" and put them all there.
Am I a fucking genius or what?

  • I hope everyone sees the irony here , Arizona is backing up law that already existed . All states should adopt this policy of abiding by the laws and enforcing them . Arizona has seen less use of their emergency systems , police and fire rescue since enforcing the law .
Oh yeah baby and I am a Californian to .

  • That bankrupt crime ridden paradise of California?

One of the worst business environments, public education systems and highest unemployment in the country?
32% of all welfare cases in the entire country from one state, California? That state? Why would ANYONE listen to the idiots who run that asylum?

  • So they want it blocked because "it makes it a crime to be in the country illegally". Only insane liberal logic could be against making a crime a criminal act...

  • Shouldn't CA be sued for allowing illegals without DL to continue to drive? They are doing the opposite of AZ and its legal?

    • @conservative hispanic
I left the state to escape the foolishness of Sacramento. The state is so deep in debt, countless stupid bond measures will be coming due with no way to pay for them, state employees pension fund is hundreds of billions of $$ underfunded- and on and on. To distract the masses from the reality of real financial ruin they use hot button immigration and gay marriage controversies to rile people up. Focus their anger at conservatives and not Sacramento where the anger should More..

    • @migs1955 Found out from a friend, the state is sending out people to businesses to verify and check to see if the businesses are properly paying and charging taxes on customers.

    • @conservative hispanic CA is doomed, not enough Tax payers to pay for all of the states largess. The legislators cater to their constituencies and the public employee pensions are unsustainable. Please oh Please go bankrupt soon CA!

  • "Among other things, it makes in a crime to be in the country illegally " Uh, isn't everything illegal a crime? That doesn't make any sense at all.

If all states and the Fed would enforce the law, they wouldn't have any place to go but back to where they came from, then try the LEGAL way.

    • @11k29 HAHAHAHAHA for years the Republicans wanted the cheap labor and the Dems wanted to be politically correct to ease their guilt over being white and for the votes lets not forget the votes. These ppl are never going home EVER!!! and we all get to pay for their kids to over crowd our school systems and roads, Thank your politicians in congress they could stop it if they really wanted to. Just allow the states along the border to put their national guards along the border.

  • I will move from arizona if they overturn sb1070. Probably go down to mexico since all the mexicans will be here...

  • If the damned federal government would do their job Arizona wouldn't need a law. I've got a friend who's a Border Patrolman. How he puts up with the crap he has to put up with, I don't know. The problem's not with the patrolmen it's with the judiciary. The Republicans want illegals for cheap labor and the Democrats want 'em for votes.
