Safe Mode: On
Sly Officer spotting traffic offenses from Bridge

Yes the Officer that has been a squeegee kid, and one day even stood in Dieppe
holding a huge sign warning people to Beware of Police was back at it again
today around 10 A.M, this time he was on top of the subway spotting traffic
offenses, and it didn't take him long before he started spotting people not
wearing seat belts , talking and texting on phones. Then as you passed through
the bridge there were 2 traffic unit Officers waiting with tickets, one in a
unmarked and the other on a motorcycle. Once again the Officers were kept busy
writing tickets and or warnings.

  • I've been on LL for a number of years now. So, I'm not surprised by some of the ignorant comments posted here... LL is changing... and it's not good.

  • I see nothing wrong here. If they didn't break the law they wouldn't have to worry.

  • In some countries, the cop who writes the ticket had to be the one who witnessed the violation in person, so that set up would not be legal there. I thought it was the same in Canada.

That cop on the bridge may also inadvertently drop his pile of donuts and coffee cup on vehicles passing underneath. Unsafe.

Otherwise, good initiative. I think it's good to crack down on these stupid texters.

  • That can not happen in Texas, unless you let it happen!
Texas law states that the citation must be written by the officer witnessing the violation. If another officer writes the ticket, it is "Hearsay" and will be dismissed if contested!
The problem is that most people do not know this and just pay the ticket. If they challenge it, it would be dismissed!

  • If cops really wanted to affect safety (and if you ask any one of them they swear this is what it's all about) they should be out mingling with the public in a huge presence instead of hiding behind bus stops with their magic speed guns. It's all about money ... period.

Drive around Calgary and you'll never see a cop ... unless he's hiding on the side of the road in a speed trap. If people saw cop cars with them on the streets they would definitely slow down.

  • Well not that I'm going to be driving anywhere near that location soon.
as i'm more than 3000 miles away from that location.
but Do you have any idea, what they are getting ticked for?

    • @piyoti It says in the info that it was for not wearing seat belts, talking on cell phones and texting. I have no compassion for those that were nailed.

  • We do the same thing several times each year. Except we'll post an officer with a laser out in front of the elementary school in the morning and afternoon to catch speeders. Would much rather hear the complaints about that, than having to scrape a 3rd grader off the pavement.
