Not at all: for offical sources, China has the 2nd (or 3rd others say) strongest army in the world. Japanese only 9th. Japan has very few ships, China has so many... and with few ships protecting your seas you are a loser in modern war, specially if your country is a "small" and heavy inhabited island.

Hey dummy the Japanese military is controlled by the U.S. Military. Japan isn't allowed to have nuclear weapons as well as Germany. It's been like this since the end of World War 2.

@ImSmarterThanYou Thier military isn't really controlled by the US. They only have a defense force and aren't even allowed to have a full blown military. Two things can happen here if China decides to act, 1. US will have to defend Japan because it limited Japan to this defense force or 2. Allow Japan to rebuild its military. However these are only options if war with China is unstoppable.

Japan can have an excuse to make nuclear weapons if US doesn't protect the island in question. And Japan is building own Aegis destroyers and Helicopter carriers.

If China attacks Japan, I believe US would have to step in and protect Japanese sovereignty due to post WW2 treaties. I would not cheer on this conflict as it may escalate very fast result in American casualties. Who knows Chinese may be crazy enough to pull the trigger, then what?
